How is pashmina shawls made? The definition of Pashmina means “made from wool. This wool that is used to make Pashmina shawls comes directly from goats that are a breed of cashmere goat native to Kashmir sky-high, frosty mountains as seen on the picture.
The goats are transported to a barn where extraction of the wool by combing is done. A shaver and special equipment such as a bristle brush is used to remove the wool from the goat gently. Once removed from the goat’s skin, the raw pashmina is compiled and parcelled to different countries for a final process before being sold worldwide.
The final process is known as “weaving.” Pashmina shawls are weaved using the 15 century Handlooms with needle work till today. The weaver has to work like a pianist working simultaneously with his feet and hands to craft the pashmina shawls which takes three to four days. Afterwards, the pashmina shawls are
stretched, dressed and washed in spring water before selling it for ready-to-use
condition.
